The area of Ryd lies in the western part of Linköping and is home to about 8,000 people, 3,000 of which are students. This residential area is close to the university (1.5 km) as well as being only 3 km from the city centre. The distance to the University Hospital and the Faculty of Health Sciences is only 3.5 km. Communications to and from Ryd are very good regardless of whether you cycle, take the bus or go by car.

Ryds centrum is the neighbourhood shopping centre offering a number of different services including restaurants, supermarkets, bakery, hairdresser, cycle repair shop, cash dispensers and much more. There is also a chemist, clinic and dentist located not far from the shopping centre.

As a tenant you will have access to a number of laundries. There is also a sauna which you can use. A parking space for your car is available for rental. The area also has a beach volley ball court, two tennis courts and a number of barbecue areas. Next door to Ryd is Rydsskogen. This woodland has jogging tracks, football pitches and on the way to the university you will pass one of Linköpings two golf courses.

In the middle of Ryd is the students very own meeting place called Herrgårn which is run by the students for the students. Students can order food and drink, dance and listen to live music.

Ryd has its own Student Council – FR-Ryd The Council comprises of students who work together with Studentbostäder I Linköping.The Council runs a cycle repair shop as well as a billiard room and an open forum on the net.
