Rules and tips for a great dorm life

Living in a dorm can be a nice social experience filled with fun activities, movie nights and dinners with friends. Some times though, it can also be a challenging time if things aren’t working out well with your dorm neighbors. Therefore we've put together some uresful tips on how to get things to work smoothly in your dorm.

Make a schedule for cleaning and other chores

It is much easier to uphold a good level of tidiness in the communal areas if you all share the responsibility. Especially when it comes to the kitchen and waste management. The cleaning company’s task is not to perform the main cleaning for you, only to add a basic cleaning on top of your own. It’s not necessary for all dorms to have the same kind of schedule or routines. Get together and agree on a way that works for you.

Use the whiteboard

There are large whiteboards in most of our dorm. Use it to inform each other on what is going on, who is staying in the dorm or why not invite each other to a night of board games?

Perform a major clear-out once each semester

The dorms are easily filled up with a lot of stuff left behind from previous tenants. Some of it could be useful, but many times they are broken, and nobody knows whose it is. Decide on a weekend where you go through all cabinets, drawers, and things in your communal areas.

Make time for gatherings

A common pattern in dorms that are well functioning, and people like to stay are different kind of gatherings. Some have a standing fika on Sundays, others get together for dinner a few times each month. There are no rights and wrongs here, but you will most likely find your time in the dorm more enjoyable if you actually spend time and get to know each other.
