Moving out

There is a lot to think about when you are moving out of your home, such as registering a change of address, mail forwarding, handling of keys and cleaning. Here is a checklist that to help you keep track of the most important things.

Notice of termination

The period of notice is one (1) calendar month for dormitory rooms and two (2) calendar months for student apartments. Calendar month means that the period of notice is calculated from the last day of the month, regardless of when in the month you cancel your tenancy. You have the option to cut the time of notice in half, if you move to a different home within Studentbostäder and holding a current contract.

You can easily cancel your contract digital with draw signature or BankID on My pages.

Change of address

When you change residences, it is important to submit a moving notification to the Swedish Tax Agency n order for mail from public agencies to arrive at your new address. You must provide notification of a change of address to e.g., insurance companies, banks, associations and friends.

Inspection

After you have terminated your contract, we arrange an inspection of your home, some time during the last two weeks when you are still living there. At that time, we will inspect the condition of the object and any damage that has occurred. We can carry out the inspection even if you are not at home, but if you want to take part in the inspection, and the time is not appropriate, you must contact your inspector. If you do not know who will perform the inspection, kindly reach out to the contact person in your area, send us an e-mail or chat with us.

Vacating early

If you wish to leave the apartment to the next tenant earlier than the scheduled move-in date, you will have to inform us that you will. You can also give one key the next tenant by hand, but the other must be left in to Stångåstadens office (Tornbyvägen 1)

Cleaning

When cleaning the apartment, you must be thorough, and you should expect it to take longer than you think. If you are unsure, review the checklist or contact your Customer Manager. The person who is going to move in after you has the right to enter a well-cleaned apartment, and it is your responsibility to ensure that this is the case, no matter what the condition of the residence was when you moved in. If the next tenant does not think that it was properly cleaned, you may have to pay for a cleaning service.

Showing

As a tenant, you are obligated to show your flat to the next possible tenant during your period of notice.

Finally

Pick up a parking permit at [hg], so you can park your car outside the house while carrying your stuff out.
You should be ready to leave the apartment and return the keys, no later than 12.00 p.m. on the first working day after your rental period has expired, see excerpts from Swedish Housing Act here. Take an extra look at the apartment before locking the doors, and make sure all windows are closed.

FAQ

If you have an active rental agreement (the rental agreement has not been terminated) with Studentbostäder, you can credit yourself with the queue time from your last move-in date in your current home. Contact Stångåstaden, 013-20 85 00, to get these points.

If your queue date at Stångåstaden is older than your most recent move-in date, the queue point will not be affected.

Regardless of whether you are registered with both Stångåstaden and Studentbostäder, each queue day is one point and the points cannot be added together.

You must give two (2) calendar months’ notice for an apartment and one (1) calendar months’ notice for a dorm room.

This means that if you want to move out at the end of September, you must terminate your contract at the latest on August 31 if you have one (1) month’s notice. If you have two (2) months’ notice, you must terminate your contract at the latest on July 31.

If you are moving within Studentbostäder, the notice period may cut in half if you wish to do so.

If your moving out date is on a weekend or on a public holiday, you are asked to hand in your keys by no later than 12 noon on the next working day.

Yes, that’s fine. Returning keys does not have to be done in person, but you have the responsibility to make sure they are returned on time.
