Robert Aldén, trygghetschef Stångåstaden

What is your comment to the situation in society?

Like everyone else, we are concerned about the development we are seeing and are fully focused on working hard to maintain safety in our residential areas. We understand that the recent escalation of violence in society has caused increased concern among many of our tenants and for those who feel worried or have questions about their housing, we want to be available for dialogue. But it is important to understand that police efforts such as increased camera surveillance or ongoing investigative work at different areas or properties are exclusively the responsibility of the police and not something that we as property owners have any insight into. We understand that the development creates many questions, but unfortunately we at Studentbostäder do not have more information about the police’s efforts than what is reported in the media.

What is your focus now?

Our number one priority is to be as accessible as we can to our tenants. It’s important to realize that one actor doesn’t turn this around on their own. Here, long-term collaboration between organisations, authorities and various actors is central, where we all have different roles and responsibilities. We already have a good and well-established collaboration with the Police and the municipality to work preventively with security-creating measures throughout Linköping, and this work continues and is further intensified. We are also continuing to work to increase security in our properties and thus make it more difficult for unauthorized persons to enter.

How does Studentbostäder work preventively with security-creating measures?

I would say that this is where we have our main focus. Basically, it’s about building community and creating relationships – which in turn contributes to safe yards and neighborhoods. Here we work with a number of different initiatives, such as our security hosts who are in some of our areas in the evenings and weekends and safety walks where we, together with tenants, identify places that may be perceived as unsafe.

What can I as a tenant do?

We have a continuous dialogue with the Police and their wish is that you contact the Police if you make observations of anything abnormal, both in terms of people or vehicles. Citizens’ tips are often crucial for the Police to detect but also succeed in investigating crimes. It is important that we all work together to ensure our common security.
